Floor Lamp

The name—Spanish for border—is born of a reflection on geographic boundaries grounded in prox- imate identities and geopolitical differences. Random dialogues arise in the lamp´s surface. The material and the light engage in a conversation made possible by the natural transparency of onyx.

The lamp’s double-hexagon structure is made of white onyx plates mined in quarries on the border between the Argentine provinces of Salta and Jujuy, alongside the border with Chile. Each of the plates is first steeped in a chemical bath to remove impurities resulting from extraction and, later, hand processed by craftspeople in the city of Salta.
